Moving On Up

Be sure to catch prior parts 1, 2, 3 and 4 before you read the below.

Thankfully the parting of ways with my ex partner was done in a really beautiful and conscious way. We had agreed that our relationship began in love and there was no reason why it could not end in a loving way, no matter how painful the whole ordeal was for us both. We agreed to honour and respect what once was and do our best to go our separate ways with kindness and fairness.

Once I had bought her out of the house and she had moved out, I could finally move on with my life. I no longer had to cope anymore with the the sense of dread each time I arrived home, wondering if she would be there and always on edge not knowing if I would need to have my guard up or not. Yes we did our best to split up in a conscious way, but it didn´t mean there were not times when I wanted to scream and shout and throw a real tantrum. It was 10 months of being patient and focused, dedicated to maintaining mutual respect without losing my centre or accommodating for things that were no longer aligned with who I was now becoming.

2019 was such an incredible year for me. I got headhunted into a cool tech company where I got given the responsibility to manage large multi-national accounts and become a type of mentor for the team and later on within the business. I found work easy and I was able to constantly be in flow as I learnt how to translate the lessons of my personal growth journey into acceptable business jargon, which was always something we struggled to do when I was working with my ex-business partner. I learnt to dress straight and infiltrate, finding ways to practically apply all the suggestions and deep learnings I had experienced from “doing the work”.

On the professional front I kept getting promoted and winning awards for my approach to business. I applied consciousness techniques that would normally only be used in personal circumstances. But that to me seemed silly because I started to get an understanding that we are all connected and we can operate with truth and compassion in the workplace as well as in our personal lives. We just had to choose to do so and not listen to the age-old programme that told us we had to beat our competition to a pulp or be an asshole (legit “business advice” I once heard from a senior leader) to get ahead of everyone else.

My approach to business became one of co-creation, constantly helping and being of service. The trick here was not to the detriment of myself, which is classically what happens in the workplace, but rather in the highest benefit of all. Something in the world of consciousness is a foundational principle.

What does that look like? Well, whenever I would take a new account on or be introduced to a new key contact, I would create an agreement making them aware of my approach to managing my accounts and why I was one of the most successful folks in the business. My approach was to always create a situation where everybody wins. In any project, deal, request or engagement everyone was always respected and if someone stood to lose in an unfair kind of way, I would work to find a new solution with the intention of avoiding any resent building up.

Resent is a negative energy that when not addressed compounds creating burn out as well as leaving the execution sloppy and ultimately not achieving the best outcome. To me that just didn't make sense and it was always far better to construct a solution that was grounded in more positive energy, allowing the energy to flow more seamlessly, always resulting in a much better outcome as the byproduct of this approach.

By this time I had started to get the message that I was being called to teach. “Teach what?” I would always ask when that Guidance came through. That was what I needed to figure out and so I went on a mission of research.

Back when I ran my previous business with my ex business partner, I had always loved running retreats. It was such a beautiful process to engage in and really lit me up. Travelling to beautiful places, creating a safe container for people to focus on themselves allowing the space to grow outside of their usual environments. What's not to love? I then began down the path of trying to find my own retreat centre. I had gone to Portugal in search of a property to see if that was an option to make my dream become a reality. But for some reason it just didn't feel right.

It came to me that before I went all into a property and take on huge potential risk, why not go down the route of coaching first through online programmes and in-person retreats in rented venues? That would give me an experience of what it was like to deliver transformation from my own filters, allowing me to see if this path was indeed for me.

With that, 2020 then became my year that I dedicated myself to more learning and holy smokes did that turn out to be one helluva year of tough lessons! I enrolled into some cool development programmes like “AltMBA” with Seth Godin and “The Flow Genome Project” with Jamie Wheal. I had done many many personal growth programmes that were more focused on how to run a business or purely consciousness directed. These two programmes were different. They were more focused on critical thinking and coaching led, really great fun and both opened me up to new tools, ways of thinking and ways of being.

January 2020 was beyond intense, still supporting my mom from a distance to help manage things with my dad, who had since been back in hospital after another bad fall, this time shattering his shoulder and requiring reconstructive surgery, as well as work being super busy and then part time completing the AltMBA programme.

Upon completion of my AltMBA I flew to Arizona for a work conference, then extending my trip to include some personal and business trips whilst I was already on the other side of the world. I visited the super high vibe town of Sedona where I met a new spiritual teacher and attended Jamie´s Flow Genome Project Coaching Retreat where I levelled up, gaining new reference points to thinking I had never been exposed to before. It was amazing!

Upon my return from US I got back to work and life, ready to roll with my (once again) new self. I was committed to getting fit and showing up to be the best coach I could be for myself and for those whom I was intending to serve. And then…COVID hit. Queue Dark Night number 5.
