The Power of Asking for Help: A Changemaker's Essential Tool
Jan 23, 2024I work with a lot of changemakers, which are people who have woken up and realised that there is more to life than they have been told and are ready to make a change in their lives. They tend to start asking themselves the question, “Why am I here?” and go deeper into their Souls Journey of evolution.
Changemakers are typically those folks who start to shine their inner light and make change within themselves, as well as others around them. This ranges from folks who have families to people who are more well known on the world stage. There is no competition here and there´s no one right way to be a change agent. Each of us has our unique part to play.
In the world of changemakers, the notion of perfection often looms large and imposter syndrome can be crippling. The illusion that those spearheading transformative shifts have all the answers is a narrative many grapple with. The truth, however, is refreshingly different – no one has it all figured out. Not even those who are adored. This narrative, particularly for changemakers, often leads to a reluctance to ask for help, a power tool that has saved my butt many times before. The false programming whispers, "I should know it all; I must be perfect to lead and make change." become what takes hold of the steering wheel perhaps leaving one feeling guilt, shame, unworthiness, frozen and a fraud.
Let's debunk this myth. Most changemakers and leaders navigate the path with uncertainty every single day, just like the rest of us. The journey involves breaking down old programming and discerning the helpful voices from the detrimental ones. It also involved feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Tough days are inevitable, but having a strong intention and an array of tools to lean upon becomes the cornerstone for navigating through them.
I have recently learnt that I can´t think my way through these tough days. I have to feel my way through it. When I become aware of how I am feeling, and find ways to alchemise those through my tools, then I find I can wiggle my way out and also gain incredible insights as to why I´m feeling like that in the first place. Emotions are just a vibrational indicator helping me understand if I am vibrating higher or lower.
In my own experience, what I´ve found is that when I surrender to my Higher Self each day, having the intention to be a channel of service is all my client sessions, when I have the courage to show up for the session anyways and do my best, then I am led by a force much greater than my mind could ever expect. I feel the fear and tell the voices of self doubt to shush. And as I have done so, over the years, the tone of that voice has changed. What the voice in my head says to me now has changed. It´s a new voice that is more kind, and loving and gives me loving guidance as opposed to beating myself up. I attribute this to me consistently using my tools and consciously surrendering to my Higher Self with intention.
For every changemaker, the journey involves flexing the muscle of leading from the heart, allowing the true self to guide rather than being led by the chaotic mind. It's about realizing that perfection is an unattainable ideal in a dualistic world where not knowing everything is perfectly okay, pun intended.
Yet, what happens when those challenging days hit, and doubts cloud the path? One powerful tool I was discussing with a client of mine the other day who had been struggling, was the tool of asking for help. Contrary to the belief that knowing all the answers is a requirement, seeking assistance becomes a transformative act. The truth is that we all have blind spots. Places in our energetic field that we cannot ourselves see. By talking through a challenge with someone, or calling in support from the more etheric realms, are all ways to alchemise the stuckness and take responsibility for moving out of what I call the sh!tpit. That place of heaviness and darkness that is no fun to be stuck in. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it's a recognition of the collective strength that comes from working through things together through collaboration and someone helping to see blind spots.
Whether it's a simple call to a friend for a change of energy or enlisting a coach for guidance, asking for help becomes a crucial step in the changemaker's toolkit. Embracing the fact that if they knew the answers, they wouldn't need help in the first place, is a liberating shift in perspective.
Changemakers are on a journey of co-creation, where asking for help aligns with the understanding that challenges are opportunities for growth. It's about acknowledging that being vulnerable and seeking assistance not only enhances personal development but also enriches the collective experience. When one changes what is inside of them, the whole outside world changes.
In those moments of doubt and uncertainty, remember that asking for help is not just a tool; it's a profound choice, and one that can only be made by you. It's a choice to break free from the illusion of having it all together and embracing the strength that comes from unity. It's a reminder that we're all in this together, supporting each other on the journey of change.
So, fellow changemakers, embrace the imperfections, celebrate the good days, and when the challenges seem insurmountable, remember that asking for help is your superpower. You are not alone; we're here to help each other. Have a beautiful day on your transformative path!
