The Power of a Life Board: How High Achievers Can Accelerate Growth

Oct 14, 2024

As someone who works with high achievers, I’ve noticed a common theme: they often believe they have to do everything on their own. I’ve walked that path myself, having played water polo for my country and excelled in various corporate roles and businesses. Whilst stepping outside of my comfort zone has always been part of my journey, I’ve also learned one vital truth—it's impossible to do it all alone.

One of the most transformative tools I’ve implemented is something I call a life board. In the corporate world, companies have a board of directors to guide them, offering support and advice. Why not have something similar for our personal lives?

My life board consists of key people who help me grow in different areas. For instance, a few years ago, I was carrying extra weight and weighed almost 100 kilograms, which was tied to unresolved emotional wounds. I decided to take control of my health and hired a personal trainer. The accountability and guidance I received were life-changing. Over six months, I transformed my body and mindset, learning techniques that I still apply today to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Without the support of my trainer, I wouldn’t have made such a significant change.

Similarly, I have a few spiritual mentors who help me expand my consciousness. One mentor, in particular, has been pivotal in guiding me through challenging moments, like the passing of my father. During that difficult time, my mentor helped me navigate the process through meditation and spiritual practices, allowing me to expand my understanding of life and death as well as help my dad along his journey. This guidance was invaluable, as it’s an area I had no prior experience in.

Another area where this has been incredibly impactful for me is in food and nutrition. My partner Erika, a food alchemist, helped me break long-standing habits and patterns around food. Through our detox programs, I’ve learned about plant-based meals, intermittent fasting, and detoxing. This has not only transformed my relationship with food but has become a regular practice that I do two to three times a year to reset my body.

Other aspects of my life board include financial mentorship. For example, I have a crypto mentor who supports me in understanding and investing in cryptocurrency. Additionally, I work with a business mentor who helps me with accountability, taking action, and ensuring that I’m always heading in the right direction. This guidance helps keep me on track, especially when life gets chaotic.

I also have colleagues who serve as a critical support mechanism. They help me untangle my own blocks, especially during emotionally tricky times. When I’m struggling, having people to share with and bounce ideas off of is invaluable. It allows me to move through challenges more effectively and keeps me from feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Your life board doesn’t have to consist solely of people you work with directly. It can also include books, podcasts, or group programs. What matters is that you consistently apply the knowledge you gain.

A life board can cover any area of your life where you want to grow. For example, if you’re single and seeking to attract a partner, a relationship coach could be an invaluable part of your life board. Before I met Erika, I worked with mentors on attracting and communicating in romantic relationships, and that guidance played a huge role in my growth.

The point is, you can build a life board in any area—whether it's fitness, spirituality, business, relationships, or wealth. The key is finding people or resources that challenge and support you in your growth. And remember, this isn’t a one-off thing. A life board requires consistent engagement. The more regularly you seek counsel and put in the work, the more aligned your life will become.

The question I want to ask you is: Who’s on your life board? Where do you seek guidance, and how are you stepping outside your comfort zone? High achievers often feel the need to go it alone, but the truth is, having the right support system can dramatically speed up your results. Whether it’s a mentor, a coach, or a group program, having someone to guide you consistently can be a game-changer.
